Glacis United secure three crucial points against Lynx

SmugMug Glacis United secure three crucial points against Lynx

Gibraltar – 1st May 2016 – Glacis United secured three surprise points against Lynx FC after turning a 1-0 deficit into a victory. After going down 1-0 at the last minute of the first half, Glacis went into the attack from the moment the ball was kicked in the second half.

A blameless Robba found himself dealing with a point blank shot from former Lynx player Sastrie within his six yard box. The keeper having no chance to block the shot. Minutes later Glacis, who continued their attacks on Lynx goal with quick breaks, found themselves rewarded with a penalty which Sastrie (Pivo) transformed to the 2-1.
Both Glacis and Lynx had a player send off as challenges flew in what was a tense and fast paced encounter.
Glacis were rewarded with the three points, taking them above Gibraltar United and Britannia XI at the foot of the table.

Lincoln women shorten gap with Manchester

SmugMug Lincoln women shorten gap with Manchester

Lincoln Red Imps Ladies 3-0 Manchester 62 Ladies, Women's League Division, Victoria Stadium, Gibraltar – 30th April 2016

The story behind the images:

Lincoln women shorten gap with Manchester
Under an intense heat which saw at least one player partially collapse to the ground due to the heat Lincoln Red Imps Ladies were able to reduce the gap between themselves and league leaders Manchester by beating the latter 3-0.
Manchester had no substitute to work with, whilst Lincoln with two on the bench used it to good advantage to keep their players refreshed.
The match saw Lincoln taking the main game to Manchester, with clean passing and a use of the flanks, very much a Lincoln trademark across all the football categories.
Playing with two young players, Lincoln dominated possession and surged time and again forward, threatening Manchester's goal.
An exciting match played on the main pitch (abiet with its own markings for women's matches) saw some refreshing creative play among the women highlighting the vast strides taken by women's football in recent years.
Lincoln's second goal was in itself a talking point as quick touch football was seen with some eight passes, sweeping across the flanks, them spreading the ball wide before it was curled into the top corner of the goal for the small crowds to gasp and cheer at the execution.
Manchester will have to play Lincoln again within the coming weeks, with the two bidding for the league leaders position.

Europa 5-0 Manchester 62

SmugMug Europa 5-0 Manchester 62

The story behind the images:
Europa not lowering its guns
Manchester 62 had little to play for, already secure in the knowledge that they would be away from the relegation positions, and having been knocked out of the cup last week by at the time very soon to be champions Lincoln.
Europa, for their part, for those 90 minutes still held a slim, very slim hope, that they might close the gap with Lincoln (something 90 minutes after the match would soon be shown to be just that a slim chance).
As from the very first kick of the ball Europa went into the offensive against a Manchester 62 which seemed to have stayed at home. The goals were soon seen as Rodriguez put in the first one on the fifth minute.
The Green Machine kept up the pressure with Javi Martinez running the show with his quick runs, through balls and crosses which was splitting Manchester's defence apart. By the 19th minutes Manchester were already 2-0, by half time they were looking at a 4-0 deficit.
Manchester had really not been in the game much, with Europa easily cutting them off high in the centre and keeping the defence under pressure through most of the 90 minutes.
Europa lowered a gear in the second half scoring just one goal, although seeing another disallowed.
The Green Machine beating the reds 5-0 in a one side affair between second in the league and mid table strugglers.

Lincoln League Champions

SmugMug Lincoln League Champions

Lincoln 13-1 Angels, First Division, Victoria Stadium, Gibraltar - 30th April 2016

The story behind the images:
Lincoln declares themselves as Champions
Lincoln Red Imps did not have long to wait to declare themselves Champions when in just under 9 minutes not only had they struck the post, and forced several saves from Brazilian keeper Filoho, they had also scored 3.
The Red, Black and Whites were playing Angels, a team already relegated and whose future was as uncertain as it had been on whether they would turn up for the match. However, Angels did turn up, eleven players plus the President (turned first division player) as a substitute.
Lincoln left for the half time break with 6 goals to their name, in what had been a constant bombardment of Angels goal. Only some superb saves from Brazilain keeper Filoho had kept it from reaching double digits.
The combination between Lee Casciaro, George Cabreras, Livramento, Walker and Kyle was short fo spectacular as they tore the Angels defence apart.
The Second half was much the same as Lincoln started by hitting the crossbar again within minutes of the second half starting.
The goals continued to rain in as even substitutes Ayabian and Clinton got their names on the score sheet.
Lincoln had come out to win the league championship in style on this day, and had already prepared their own celebrations for the day with white t-shirts claiming to be champions. A 13-1 victory was a sure way of highlighting their superiority. The only point marring the day was the solitary goal that had been conceded late in the match.
