A reminder of how the past can become the present

SmugMug A reminder of how the past can become the present

The security around the Holocaust Memorial Day reminded us of how easy the events of the past could become the present if it weren't for the efforts of the few to protect our freedom.

Gibtalks starts at John Mackintosh Hall

SmugMug Gibtalks starts at John Mackintosh Hall

Gibraltar - 24th January 2015 - Pictured radio presenter Michelle Ruggeroni from Radio Gibraltar provided an entertaining alternative talk surrounding the life around a street bench. Her session was the first to be cut shot by the "dreaded hooter", with the public calling for her to be allowed to end her talk. The anecdotal talk saw people laughing as she described events around a street bench which formed daily life in Gibraltar.
The first session of Gibtalks, a new live debate event organised by Julian Felices and the Ministry of Culture in Gibraltar, took place today at the John Macintosh Hall in Gibraltar. Among the speakers were the editor of the Gibraltar Chronicle, Dominique Searle, the leader of the Opposition Daniel Feetham, former Minister Peter Montegriffo and Government Minister John Cortes.
The event is based on the popular "TED" talks structure.

Health and Education departments clash over Tuck shops

SmugMug Health and Education departments clash over Tuck shops

Gibraltar – 9th January 2015 – The Gibraltar Department of Education and Health Authorities were involved in a very public clash today at a press conference when the Health Authority's nutritionist expert publicly called for all School tuck shops to be closed, receiving an immediate rejection to the idea from the head of the Department of Education.
The clash took place during a press conference in which the Chief Medical Officer Dr Kumar and Head of the Department of Education announced the start of a new campaign to promote healthier eating amongst school children. After presenting their campaign to send out information leaflets through the schools, the GHA Nutritionist, Melanie Mcleod spoke out calling on the Department of Education to commit itself to closing all school tuck shops. The head of the Department of education responded that they had no plans to do so and questioned the call for such action arguing that there was no need for them to do so. A clearly disappointed nutritionist responded by highlighting that research conducted into this area had highlighted that the logistical solution had been shown to close all tuck shops and promote healthier eating.

Parral resigns as Woman's National team manager

The Gibraltar FA Women's Committee this week accepted, with regret, the resignations of Women's National Team Manager Adrian Parral, and his Assistant Manager Steve Cummings.

"The Gibraltar FA, and specifically the Women's Committee, would like to thank both Mr Parral and Mr Cummings for all their hard work and efforts during their time in their roles and wishes them well in their future careers within the game," said a statement issued earlier this week.

The GFA has announced that Jonathan Sodi is to take over the Women's National Team, as Caretaker Manager, until the end of the season.

Mr Sodi is currently a Level 2 coach and is in the process of completing his UEFA B license.

Andy Parral was instrumental in the recent development of the Women's national side which saw the first UEFA Development tournament held in Gibraltar last summer. With few resources he transformed the national side to a level which was able to compete at a par against sides ranked at the same level. The national side putting in an exemplary performance, which although leading to three defeats on home ground saw them losing only by respectable scorelines against sides like the Algarve FA, Andorra and Luxembourg.

The People's Collection is launched

SmugMug The People's Collection is launched

We start 2015 with a new look, but more importantly with a new perspective.
The People's Collection is a collection of images depicting social life, people, and community life in general. A broad study on people and normal every day life surrounding the photographer, mainly based around Gibraltar.
Taken throughout the year, Core Photography has increasingly found itself delving further and deeper into its fundamental project, the one that brings together a new perspective on everyday life in Gibraltar through the static image.
This collection focuses on people, everyday events are captured for the records of history, and in some cases processed into an art format for viewing. Documentary meets art, meets new perception.
